$1,500 reported stolen from Newmarket church

NEWMARKET — Sunday’s collection at Newmarket Community Church, amounting to $1,500 in cash and checks, was stolen from the church thrift shop Monday afternoon.

The money was from the church’s weekly Sunday collection, which is used to support multiple facets of church operations, according to Pastor Josh Gray.

The church’s collector took the money on Monday morning to deposit in the bank, according to Gray but discovered it was closed because Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
