$1M for Church Fire Suspect

MARYSVILLE — Stephen Beightler smiled in front of a judge in a Union County Court at 8 a.m. Wednesday. Bond was set at $1Million.

Beightler said that yesterday was "the happiest day of my life."

The Union County Sheriff's Office charged Stephen A Beightler, 30 of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania with one count of arson and one count of receiving stolen property, both felonies of the fourth degree.

The charges are in connection with the early morning fire Tuesday at the New Horizons Baptist Church.

Beightler was transported to the Tri-County Jail in Mechanicsburg.

The church, located at 17939 Paver Barnes Road in Paris Township, burned to the ground and is a total loss.

At 3:52 a.m. the sheriff's office received a 9-1-1 call reporting the church on fire and flames showing.
