Police have charged four men with the 2006 arson of St. John’s Presbyterian Church in Macnchaca. Authorities say the suspects broke into the church just after midnight on June 7 and set it on fire.

Police have charged Qareman Showani, Eric Rodriguez, Nickolay Koutzarow, and Erik Monson with crime.

According to the arrest affidavits, authorities received a call stating that there was a fire at the church. Investigators determined where the call was made and questioned the man who made it.

According to court documents, the witness admitted to making the call about the fire. He told police that he and several friends, including those that were charged, were drinking beer on the night of the fire.

The witness told police that the group decided to set fire to the church. Several of the group members left with a gas can walked off in the direction of the church. The witness decided to leave and walked home to his home.

Investigators also interviewed one of the people in the group that night, an unidentified juvenile female. She was taken into custody after a family disturbance on the night of the fire. They say that her clothes smelled of gasoline and that she possessed a cap to a gasoline container that matched the one found at the crime scene. Koutzarov allegedly admitted to police that the girl was with the group that night.
