| April 9, 2010

The Massachusetts State Fire Marshal's Office is offering a $5,000 reward for information in the attempted firebombing at the First Church in Ipswich on Tuesday.

Officials say two Molotov Cocktail-type gasoline bombs were thrown at the church in separate incidents early Tuesday morning.

The bombs started small fires on the church's lawn, but did not damage the church itself.

The fire marshal's office asks anyone with information call 1-800-682-9229 or the Ipswich Police at 978-356-4343. They can also e-mail [email protected]

The First Church of Ipswich was founded back in 1634 and has had no history of threats.

"It has survived members being accused of being witches, and it has survived lightning," said Pastor Rebecca Brown, on Tuesday. "Our congregation is strong, and the church will be just fine."
