AUSTIN (KXAN) – Over $50,000 worth of gift cards are missing from the school at Shoreline Christian Center in North Austin.

The theft was reported to the Travis County Sheriffs office on Monday. They are investigating the theft.

A church official noticed the missing gift cards on June 14, but they could have gone missing as early as February.

The gift cards are from places like HEB, Starbucks, and Macy's. They are used as a fundraiser for the school. Money raised from the sale of the cards went to projects like the computer lab and playground.

The keys were kept in a cabinet in a locked room. It was thought that there were only six keys to the room, but more than 30 copies were found.

The school is offering a reward for an arrest and conviction. They also plan to make changes to their system according to headmaster Rick Tankersley.

The Shoreline school is a private school for students through sixth grade. About 230 students attend the school.

The Shoreline Christian Center has approximately 5,000 members.
