Arlington Police: Suspect suffocated pastor, used victim’s credit card

ARLINGTON — Arlington police have released new information about the suspect and some of the circumstances surrounding the death of NorthPointe Baptist Church Pastor Clint Dobson and the assault of his ministry assistant, Judy Elliott.

Arlington police said they have in custody two people involved in the case. Steven Lawayne Nelson, 24, was charged with capital murder and has a bond set at $750,000. A second "person of interest" was also placed in custody, but has not been charged with a crime. Police have not released the name or involvment of the second person.

Police said Pastor Dobson's was suffocated by Nelson. The details were not disclosed in the Monday afternoon press conference.

The community is being credited with helping provide information that lead to the arrests. Tips helped investigators zero in on the suspect when he used one victim's credit card to purchase gas.
