Arson Blamed For Playground Fire

| September 6, 2011

Children are forced to find a new place to play after a fire burns down a church playground. It's the work of an arson, and it spread to a neighbor's home.

It's almost hard to recognize a once vibrant playground that was part of the Saint Agnes Church on 23rd & Q Street. Recently, a fire burned down the playset and spread to the neighboring house. Tony Ficenec says he didn't even realize what was happening until a man came knocking on his door. The man then helped him get to safety.

"I don't know how soon I would've heard something if the fella hadn't come and got me out," Ficenec explained. "I wanted to get out as soon as I could. That's the first time I saw a fire that big so close to me too."
