Arson fire that damaged church buses remains unsolved; officials seek public’s help

An arson fire that damaged eight church buses last summer hasn’t been solved, and fire officials are seeking the public’s help.

“There are still names and ghosts of names out there,” Capt. Stuart Bevis said of the possible leads, “but there’s nothing solid to follow up.”

Shortly before 5:30 a.m. on July 7, Wichita firefighters responded to a fire at the First Pentecostal Church on the corner of MacArthur and Hydraulic. Investigators found fires had been intentionally set inside eight buses, severely damaging four of them and causing an estimated $30,000 in damage, Bevis said.
