Bangor church’s baby Jesus defaced

| January 4, 2012

Bangor police are investigating the defacement of a baby Jesus from a church Nativity scene and a reward is being offered by Borough Council.

The porcelain figure – scrawled with Satanic references in red marker – was found bound with rope and hanging from a tree Tuesday morning, said Pastor Franklin Stinner with Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church.

The markings include the numbers 666, "I am the antichrist," "Demonization is religious oppression," and an anarchy symbol. Stinner said the figure's lips, fingernails and toenails were colored red.

Since details of the vandalism were released Wednesday, Stinner said he's received numerous calls of support from church members and residents.
