Baptism Party Brawl: California Man Sentenced For Stabbing Guest At Church Event

| March 28, 2013

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. — A California man who stabbed another guest at a baptismal party last fall was sentenced to one year in prison Friday for the incident.

Authorities say Yasmani Ramirez, 28, was at a baptism party in Redwood City in November when another member at the event “inappropriately” touched his wife while asking her to dance.

Following the incident, Ramirez approached the man on the dance floor and the two began arguing. Police reports say Ramirez then pulled out a folding pocketknife and assaulted the man.

“These are relatively young people — testosterone is still running rampant in them,” said San Mateo County prosecutor Steve Wagstaffe of the incident. “It turned into a couple of wild male elk in mating season locking horns — except for one party, the horns were a knife.”
