Boy raped, church member jailed

| March 6, 2010

A 15-year-old boy was invited out of the rain and into a church van for a ride to school Monday morning but was kidnapped and raped instead, according to the Caddo sheriff’s office.

Robert James Washington Jr., a member of New Beginnings Faith Tabernacle Baptist Church, was arrested today.

The ride appeared to be going fine, the boy told deputies, until the driver, whom the boy did not know, pulled a gun on him as they got close to the school.

The driver instead took the boy to the church, located in the 100 block of Flournoy Lucas Road, according to a Caddo sheriff’s office news release.

There the driver forced him to remove his clothes and have sex with him in the pastor’s study.

Then, the man drove the boy back to the school. At a red light near the school, the boy jumped out and flagged down a police officer on campus.

Washington, 34, of 800 block of Pinetree Drive in Shreveport, was arrested today on one count each of aggravated kidnapping and aggravated rape.

He was booked into Caddo Correction Center as an in-state fugitive for a warrant obtained by Shreveport police. No bond has been set.
