Burglar Targets Cars During Church Service

| April 19, 2010

SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio police said a robber tried to take advantage of churchgoers Sunday morning.

Officers said while church members were attending services, a burglar was breaking into cars in the parking lot.

They said it happened at St. Jude's Catholic Church in the 100 block of south St. Augustine Street around 11 a.m.

They said if it hadn't been for one observant parishioner, the robber could have gotten away with a white van full of items.

Officers said a woman came out of the church, spotted the burglar and called police.

"As the officers arrived, a witness pointed out the suspect to the officers. The suspect was leaving the location in a white Dodge van other officers in the area were able to stop the suspect," said SAPD Sgt. Lawrence Walters.

Police said the burglar will be charged with three counts of burglary to a vehicle.
