Burglars hit seven churches in Barron County

| August 28, 2011

Barron County (WQOW) – In Barron County, congregations at seven churches are in shock. Some time earlier this week, each of their buildings were broken into. In most cases, equipment and cash were stolen.

Staff at St. Boniface Catholic Church came to work Tuesday to find their building had been broken into.

"You think, well, the church is probably the last place they're going to touch, but nothing's scared anymore to some sections of the culture," says Michael Cullen, parish life coordinator.

The thief or thieves removed an air conditioner from a window and smashed a lock to enter an office. Staff say no money was there, but a few things were taken.

"Serious enough for us to be shocked by it and to know that there was damage," Cullen says. "It will cost us."

This Chetek church isn't the only one picking up the pieces this week. Law enforcement say it's one of seven burglarized in Barron County, likely on Monday. The others are Advent Christian Church, Chetek Lutheran Church, Faith Baptist Church and The Refuge, as well as Assembly of God and Dallas Lutheran Church, which are both in the town of Dallas.
