Burglars take gifts collected in honor of retiring pastor

| May 26, 2011

RICHMOND — As members of White Oak Pond Church say goodbye to their pastor of 25 years, they are forced to suffer another loss. Donations made in the pastor’s honor were stolen from the church Sunday night, said Charla Gilbert, student associate minister.

“This doesn’t help us in losing our minister,” Gilbert said. “It’s hard for the church to let him go. It makes this break-in very painful.”

The donations included those collected during a special reception conducted Sunday afternoon for Pastor Rusty Rechenbach, who is retiring.

None of the regular offerings were affected.
