Burglary at Santhome Basilica Church

| June 28, 2009

CHENNAI: In yet another case of an early-morning heist in a place of worship, four wooden drop-off boxes meant for offering inside the chapel of
the Santhome Cathedral Basilica were found broken open on Friday morning. Church authorities are not sure about the exact amount stolen, but since the boxes were last opened on Monday, they contained four days of offerings, which could well run into a few lakhs of rupees. About a month ago, burglars had killed the priest of a Jain temple in Sowcarpet and made away with jewellery worth Rs 1.2 crore. They were arrested within 10 days.
