Burglary suspect makes initial court appearance

| August 5, 2010

GREEN BAY (WFRV) – The suspect in a rash of Green Bay church burglaries made his first court appearance today.

Nineteen year old Nicholas Holz confessed to at least 21 burglaries.

Today in court we learned that Holz could be facing ten to twelve criminal charges for burglary and criminal damage to property.

Right now he's being held on a $50,000 cash bond. Holz told police he targeted churches, because of the lack of security cameras and so he could have a place to sleep occasionally.

While inside, he would look for loose change in collection boxes but also took bigger items like laptops, checkbooks and jewelry.

A police search of his residence did find a number of those items.

Most of the damage was caused by his forced entry into the churches.

Police also believe he has acted alone in these burglaries.
