Choir volunteer charged with rape

A 30-year-old youth choir volunteer from Bear was arrested Thursday for allegedly engaging in a sexual relationship with a choirboy half her age.

That relationship has left Zipporah Holland-Samuels pregnant and the teenager identified as the prospective father, according to court records.

New Castle County police charged Holland-Samuels, of the 100 block of Darling St., with nine counts of fourth-degree rape and one count of second-degree rape.

The boy was 15 years old when the relationship began in January and later turned 16, prompting the change in rape charges, county police Senior Cpl. Trinidad Navarro said.

Holland-Samuels is a member of the adult choir at Victory Christian Church in Wilton and volunteered to assist with the youth choir, Navarro said.

Police said they learned of the inappropriate relationship Wednesday, when the boy and his mother went to police headquarters to report the allegations.

The teen told police that he has known Holland-Samuels for five years "as the families are very close friends," police said in court records.

The two began a relationship when he spent the night at her house Jan. 9-10, according to court records.

The teen turned 16 on Jan. 15.

After his birthday, the teen engaged in unprotected sexual intercourse every weekend until Feb. 22 at Holland-Samuels' home, court records said.

He estimated that during the weekend they would have sex "multiple times" and told police that they had intercourse on at least 10 occasions, Navarro said.

When questioned by police, Holland-Samuels said she was aware of the teen's age, police said.

Holland-Samuels was being held at Baylor Women's Correctional Institution after failing to post $55,000 secured bail.

She was ordered by the court to have no contact with the boy.–Choir-volunteer-charged-with-rape-
