Church checks stolen, cashed

AVONDALE – A woman was arrested and charged Wednesday with stealing and cashing more than $1,400 in checks stolen from 1st New Shiloh Baptist Church, 710 S. Fred Shuttlesworth Circle.

Javannda McDaniels, 24, of Evanston, was booked into the Hamilton County jail on one count each of theft, forgery and receiving stolen property. She was processed and released due to overcrowding, jail officials said.

According to court documents, she stole five checks totaling $1,421 from the church between Jan. 25 and March 11.

She cashed the checks at a nearby check cashing store.
