Church intentionally set on fire

| September 7, 2011

TEMPLE – Someone intentionally set a fire at a church near downtown Temple. Investigators are still trying to find the person responsible.

"It's not an accidental," Capt. Jonathan Christian said. "There's no electrical appliances or anything out there that could've started the fire."

Pastor DeWayne McBride says members of the church called him early Tuesday morning. When he saw three fire trucks, he knew there was a problem.

"You wouldn't think that a place that helps people and blesses people would be a target for anything like that," McBride said.

The fire kept 150 children from attending classes at Grace Temple Ministries' Learning Center because the back doors and part of the first floor ceiling were charred. The fire cause a significant amount of smoke to rise to the second floor, where student desks filled the rooms.
