(Mukilteo, WA) – Fire officials have completed their investigation into an arson fire that destroyed a 21-year old meetinghouse of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 11001 Harbour Pointe Boulevard, Mukilteo, Washington. Lynnwood Washington Stake President Jeffrey B. Lee said neither of the Bishops who serve in the two wards (congregations) of a combined 800 members knew of any threats or strange phone calls before the arson fire discovered early Saturday morning about 3:00AM.

Brian McMahan, Mukilteo Assistant Fire Chief said, investigators from Snohomish County, the ATF and the Mukilteo Fire Department spent 11 hours at the scene before determining the fire was deliberately started on the outside of the building, near the back entry. Fire officials have turned the investigation over to the Mukilteo Police Department and the evidence collected at the scene has been sent to the state crime lab for analysis, McMahan said.

Snohomish County property records show the 15,000 square foot brick meetinghouse was constructed in 1989 on 2.21 acres has a 2010 value of $3.3-million dollars.

A $10,000 dollar reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the fire

Lynwood Stake President Jeff Lee said the two wards, Harbour Pointe and Beverly Park, displaced by the fire met and enjoyed an uplifting meeting Sunday. He said that members were focused on the future and thankful no one was injured. The out pouring of kindness from the community, other churches, neighbors, and city officials has been deeply appreciated, Lee said.

An insurance adjuster was expected to visit the fire scene Monday to determine the amount of damage. Although the church has made no official determination whether to rebuild at the same site, Lee seemed confident a new meetinghouse would be rebuilt at the same location.
