Church recoups $83K lost in theft

HAVERHILL — Catholic officials have restored the money allegedly stolen from St. John the Baptist Church by its pastor, bringing financial stability back to the church.

In a letter to St. John parishioners, the Rev. Robert Murray said the Archdiocese of Boston has used insurance to replenish the missing $83,147, which the church needs to operate.

The letter also said the Rev. Keith LeBlanc, who is charged in the theft, is expected to make restitution. In addition, the church is using various methods to protect money it collects, according to the letter.
