Church says burglars took money and fudge for troops

| December 11, 2011

HANFORD – A recent burglary at First Christian Church resulted in the loss of material goods, but not a loss of spirit.

The burglar made off with a small amount of cash, as well as a bag of leftover cooked pork and some holiday fudge intended for care packages to be sent to local troops in Afghanistan.

"But we didn't let that deter us," said youth minister Bredgetta Longfellow. "We still got them shipped. We have one more box and then they'll have their stockings."

Each month the church has been sending care packages to three local military service members. For the holidays, Longfellow planned to make two special boxes for each: one with cards, cookies and fudge and the other with stockings filled with various items. To help with shipping costs, she placed a donation box at the back of the church.

She left the money overnight Sunday, intent on shipping the boxes Monday morning.
