Church Shooting Suspect Arrested Monday

Orangeburg County, SC (WLTX) — Authorities in Orangeburg County arrested a 20-year-old Springfield man they say was involved in a shooting outside a church that injured another person.

Deputies with the Orangeburg County Sheriff's Office arrested Phillip McCreary Jr. and charged him with pointing and presenting firearms at a person.

Monday afternoon, bond for McCreary was set at $200,000.

Investigators say at about 1 p.m. Sunday, McCreary opened fire on a 20-year-old victim outside of Oakey Springs Baptist Church on Fire Tower Road in Springfield. According to deputies, McCreary and the victim were engaged in some sort of physical fight before shots were fired.

According to witnesses, the church had planned a meeting vote on the church's current pastor at 1 p.m. Sunday.

A bond hearing for McCreary is scheduled for Monday afternoon.
