Church theft woman spared prison

A woman who stole almost £12,000 from a church in a bid to "buy back" her husband's love, has been spared jail.

Debra Stanger, a treasurer at Christ Church in Felling, Gateshead, was given blank cheques by the vicar to pay bills but made them out to herself.

She used the money to "keep her husband happy" after finding out he was cheating on her, magistrates heard.
