Church windows stolen just hours after installation

| September 20, 2011

TWO windows worth £500 have been stolen from an Amman Valley church — just two hours after they were installed.

The oval windows in the porch of Christ Church, Garnant, were still setting in their frames when the thieves pushed them out.

"On Saturday morning I had a phone call saying there was glass on the floor around the church," said warden Meagan Thomas.

"So we originally thought the windows had been smashed.

"But it turned out whoever did it had also smashed a window in the vestry, that's where the glass was from — the windows in the porch had been taken clean out of their frames."

Mrs Thomas said the theft happened just two hours after the Department of Stained-Glass Windows at Swansea University had installed the panes.

She said the church has been constantly targeted since two windows in the vicarage were smashed last year.
