Lancaster city police have charged a man with attempted homicide for a stabbing last month outside a church.

Israel Polanco-Cano is charged with stabbing a man waiting in line for a free breakfast May 25 at First Reformed Church, 40 E. Orange St.

As of today, Polanco-Cano remains at large, city police said. Officers spent the weekend looking for him, but had no luck, according to Lt. Todd Umstead.

Polanco-Cano, 31, is described as light-skinned with green eyes, 5 feet, 4 inches, and 200 pounds. He was wearing a Mohawk haircut when he allegedly stabbed the man, police said.

On Thursday, city police Detective Roland Breault filed a single count of criminal attempted homicide.

Meanwhile, the victim continues to recover at a local hospital nine days after he was stabbed numerous times in the throat and chest, officials said.
