Counterfeit note put in church tray

| December 16, 2009

A CHURCHGOER could have inadvertently passed counterfeit money in the collection tray of a city church.

When church staff were counting donations from the collection plate on Sunday, they found the counterfeit note.

Police seized the note and a police spokeswoman said the church-goer may have been given the $50 note when out shopping.

"Members of the public and business operators are warned to check notes by feeling the texture and the security window."

Anyone with information on the passing or production of counterfeit notes is asked to contact BankSA Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
