CTB issues travel warnings ahead of High Holidays

| August 20, 2013

The Counter-Terrorism Bureau (CTB) issued on Monday a list of updated travel warnings ahead of the High Holidays. It is recommended to avoid non-essential visits to Turkey, Kenya, Nigeria and Azerbaijan due to continuous potential threat.

"The High Holidays coming ahead, specifically Rosh Hashana and Sukkot, could be a target for terrorists to conduct attacks against Israeli and Jewish targets abroad," the CTB statement read. "The commemorating day for the Twin Towers attack (September 11) may be a preferred date for attacks by al-Qaeda and global jihad agents, even against Israeli and Jewish targets in different places."

The travel warnings emphasize several key advisories in regards to travel around the world. The CTB statement once again validates a severe warning of travel to Sinai, given the security reality in the region, which included violent clashes in Sinai and Egypt recently. The current travel warning to Sinai is also given in light of information regarding potential future attacks.
