Day care worker at Suffolk church admits assaulting child

| February 12, 2010

A day care worker accused of striking, slapping and sitting on a child at First Baptist day care in November pleaded guilty Thursday in Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court.

Ila Howell, in a plea bargain, pleaded guilty to three counts of misdemeanor simple assault.

She was 22 at the time of the assaults on the 18-month-old child.

Judge Robert S. Brewbaker Jr. ordered Howell to undergo anger management treatment and to perform 50 hours of community service. The charges will be taken under advisement for two years while Howell is on probation, the judge said.

If Howell continues with good behavior during the probationary period, the charges will be dismissed.

She's due back in court in 2012.
