Denton church burglary suspect begs for help
DENTON — You could call it "divine intervention."
This story is about a person doing the wrong thing at the right place — a church.
It turns out that Grace Pointe Church in Denton was the perfect sanctuary for the 19-year-old burglary suspect.
Pastor Dave Smith arrived to a bloody scene. "He came to this window and what we think happened is he tried to push this glass in, and as he did it, it pushed in and both hands went in and it cut both of his hands (and forearms) right here," Smith said. "There was a lot of blood."
The bleeding burglar tried to enter the main sanctuary, but it was empty. So — bleeding and running down the sidewalk — he ran to the next building trying to get help from the church members that moments earlier he had tried to steal from.
Tanya Temple was inside the youth center when she heard yelling.
"He said, 'Help me! Help me!" Temple recalled, saying the young man was sobbing and apologizing.
