A doctor charged with shooting one man to death and critically wounding another during a homeowners association meeting at Springdale Community Church Thursday evening confessed to the crimes, a Louisville Metro Police official said.
Mahmoud Yousef Hindi, 55, was charged Friday with killing the president of the Spring Creek Homeowners Association and wounding a member of the association’s board of directors.
Lt. Barry Wilkerson, commander of the homicide unit, said at a news conference that investigators were looking into reports from neighbors that the shooting stemmed from a dispute Hindi had with the homeowners association over a driveway and fence he had built on his property.
Hindi was at the meeting “a short period of time” before he began shooting at the eastern Jefferson County church, Wilkerson said. He said seven other people were a few feet from Hindi at the time. Police did not identify the type of weapon used.
The homeowners association president, David Merritt, 73, of the 9300 block of Running Spring Drive, died of one gunshot wound in the head, said Jo-Ann Farmer, Jefferson County chief deputy coroner.
