An Escambia County inmate who escaped from a road prison work site in Cantonment was captured Monday night after an approximately 10 hours on the run, according to a county spokesman.

Nolan Ray McDaniel, 25, was reportedly working in the area of Jacks Branch Road and Schifko Road when he escaped on foot, county spokesman Bill Pearson said. The Escambia County Sheriff's Office joined road prison staff in a man hunt at around 1:30 p.m., according to a Sheriff's Office spokesperson.

Monday evening, the Escambia County Road Prison's K-9 team tracked McDaniel's scent to the Lathram Chapel Methodist Church in the 2600 block of Jack's Branch Road, Pearson said. Officers from several agencies did a walk through inspection of the building but were unable to locate McDaniel.

During this time, the Santa Rosa County Sheriff's Office made contact with the people at the missing inmate's last known address, Pearson said. A short time later, McDaniel called the residents of the home, who alerted the Santa Rosa County Sheriff's Office.
