EBENSBURG — Although she’s 71 years old and a first-time offender, Judge Norman Krumenacker decided a prison sentence was appropriate for a former church treasurer who admitted she had stolen more than $40,000 in church funds over five years.

Leah M. Wonyetye, of Dunlo, was ordered by Krumenacker to serve six to 23 months in county prison, plus a consecutive five years’ probation.

Wonyetye also was directed to pay $46,183 restitution to SS. Peter & Paul Orthodox Church, 141 Hoffman Farm Road in Richland Township near Windber.
