| January 25, 2010

A disbarred lawyer was sentenced this morning to serve five years' probation and repay $90,600 he embezzled from a Roman Catholic church in Grosse Pointe Woods.

Frederick Petz pleaded guilty to embezzlement charges in Wayne County Circuit for the theft of funds from Our Lady Star of Sea Church. He was sentenced before Circuit Court Judge Deborah Thomas.

The loss was discovered in an audit by the Archdiocese of Detroit.

Petz lost his law license in 2001 for mishandling clients’ money.
