Explosion In Sviato-Pokrovskyi Church In Zaporizhia Wounds Nine Believers

An explosion in Sviato-Pokrovskyi church in Zaporizhia on Small Market in Zaporizhia during the evening service has caused traumas to nine believers on Wednesday.

Ukrainian News learned this from a statement by the media and information department of the Zaporizhia regional state administration.

According to the statement, at about 16:00 the Zaporizhia regional division of the Emergency Situations and Protection of Population from Chornobyl Disaster Consequences Ministry received a report about the explosion in the Sviato-Pokrovskyi church.

As a result of the explosion, one person is in a grave condition and another eight people received traumas of moderate gravity.

The people have been provided with first aid and they have been brought to hospital.

Borys Petrov, head of the Zaporizhia regional state administration, came to the place of the explosion. He has chaired a meeting on the investigation into all circumstances of the incident.

A representative of the Zaporizhia regional division of the Emergency Situations and Protection of Population from Chornobyl Disaster Consequences Ministry told Ukrainian News that eight people got slight wounds and one woman is in resuscitation department.

She also said that a criminal case is likely to be instituted on the fact of the incident.

According to the representative of the regional division of the Emergency Situations Ministry, it was an improvised bomb without shell.

Maryna Ostapenko, head of the press service of the Security Service of Ukraine, told Ukrainian News that specialists of the SBU are on the way to the place of the explosion.

As Ukrainian News earlier reported, in 2008 then President Viktor Yuschenko established the Day of Baptism of Kyiv Rus – Ukraine on July 28.
