Flintshire church reviews security after tomb raiders desecrate graves

| March 3, 2011

WARDENS at a rural village church are determined to increase security after tomb raiders desecrated graves.

Thieves who targeted Llanarmon-yn-Iâl parish church for it’s oil, stealing almost £1,000 worth, also opened six tombs of 17th century graves last week, apparently searching for valuables to steal.

Luckily the bodies were buried under the ground so were not disturbed.

Church warden George Flanagan said: “The contractors working on the renovation of our 16th century schoolroom have been good enough to help us repair them.

“They weigh an awful lot so need several men to move them.
