YAKIMA — A gang member was shot at Saturday outside a downtown church while attending a program there, city police said.

The intended victim was in the front yard about 12:30 p.m. when he came under fire, according to a police news release. No injuries were reported even though others were also inside and outside St. Michael's Episcopal Church, at the intersection of Yakima and Naches avenues.

The church was hit by several small-caliber rounds, and officers found shell casings at the southwest corner of the building.

The shooter, described as a man in his 20s with a shaved head and wearing gray Dickies pants and a blue shirt, fled southeast and was not located.

Police said the incident was likely gang-related.
