Garland youth pastor recovering after being shot at church

| September 28, 2010

It was one of those unimaginable scenes.

Eddie Contreas was leading a youth group of about 35 Friday night when a man with a gun walked in screaming. The gunman's two-year-old twins were by his side.

The man waved the gun and told them they were fakes.

Contreas was shot in the face when he walked toward the gunman hoping to calm him.

Contreas underwent eight hours of surgery. The bullet passed through his hand and then through his face. He is expected to recover.

Josue Pablo, 20, was arrested in connection with the shooting.

The church, Walnut Park Asamblea De Dios, has reached out to Pablo's family to begin the healing and forgiveness process.
