HACKENSACK — A grand jury has indicted two Lodi men for their alleged roles in a series of firebombings at Bergen county synagogues, authorities announced today.
The panel sitting in Bergen County Superior Court found probable cause to charge Aakash Dalal and Anthony Graziano with 30 criminal charges, including attempted murder, bias intimidation and aggravated arson, Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli announced today.
Both men have been jailed since early 2012, after police uncovered instant message exchanges between Dalal and Graziano that shed light on their detailed plans to terrorize the area's Jewish community.
With Dalal allegedly egging him on, Graziano set fire to a Paramus synagogue, and tossed a Molotov cocktail into a Rutherford temple as Rabbi Nosson Schuman and his family slept inside, police said. Schuman was injured during the fire, but the family was able to escape with their lives.
