Gunfire hits church school

| March 4, 2012

Gunfire erupted Thursday outside an Omaha school gymnasium, but none of the children inside was hurt.

One bullet struck the gym door at St. Paul Lutheran Church and School, 5020 Grand Ave., police said.

A house nearby and a vehicle in a parking lot also were hit by gunfire.

Police said a witness saw a gray sport utility vehicle with three men inside pull into the parking lot, and then heard gunshots about 3:30 p.m.

Sixth-, seventh- and eighth-graders were inside the gym at the time, said Janet Sprague, whose daughter was among them.
