Hannibal man arrested after disturbance at church

| September 10, 2010

Hannibal, MO — Hannibal police say they were forced to use pepper spray on a man who disrupted a church service Wednesday.

Twenty-six-year-old Clinton L. Brown was arrested for driving while intoxicated, driving while license revoked, leaving the scene of an accident, reckless driving, no insurance and open liquor.

Warrants for resisting arrest, assault on an officer, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia were pending.

Authorities said the incident started when an officer responded to a report of a man who had left the scene of an accident at 5:44 p.m. A witness told the officer that the man went inside Tabernacle of Praise church.

The officer found the suspect coming out of the church bathroom with injuries to his head and body.

The suspect reportedly refused to answer when the officer asked for identification and began to curse loudly. The officer used pepper spray, but the suspect continued to resist.

After he was subdued, the suspect was taken to Hannibal Regional Hospital and treated.
