Hate graffiti on Mountain church

| July 23, 2010

Hamilton police are asking the public for help finding those responsible for hate graffiti at a Hamilton Mountain church.

The Immanuel Christian Reformed Church on Mohawk Road West has been spray painted with racist graffiti three times this month (July 1, 9 and 21).

The graffiti has been on both the church building and walkway leading to the church. The most recent incident also included homophobic messages.

There have been racist messages against various ethnic groups.

The church is a gathering place for many ethnic communities, says police Sergeant Barry Mungar.

Police refused to say who the graffiti was directed at or the content of the messages.

Police have increased patrols in the area.

A representative from the church declined to comment.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police Detective Sergeant Tom Andrews at 905-546-3851 or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
