HCSO: Suspect in Harris County church thefts arrested in Florida

HOUSTON – A woman suspected in a series of church thefts in Harris County, among other crimes, was arrested in Florida on Sunday.

Cynthia Gonzalez, aka Cynthia Martinez, has been on the run since June.

She’s wanted in Harris County on charges of tampering with government records, credit card abuse and forgery. She’s also wanted in Montgomery County and has several warrants in Florida.

According to investigators, Gonzalez was caught on tape stealing a woman’s purse when the victim went up to take Communion at a Houston-area church. She’s also suspected in eight to 10 similar cases at a number of Harris County houses of worship.
