Hearing waived in Lebanon church arson

| October 2, 2012

A 55-year-old woman is headed to trial on charges she set a fire at a Lebanon church in April.

A preliminary hearing was waived Thursday at Central Court for Sandra Jones, no known address, who was charged with two counts of arson.

Her formal arraignment is scheduled for Oct. 31, with a trial set for January.

City police charged Jones with starting a fire at the rear of Calvary Chapel, 740 Willow St., in the early morning hours of April 2.

Nearly 40 firefighters from nine companies were on the scene for more than six hours battling the blaze, which caused at least $100,000 damage.

The fire was determined to have been deliberately set based on an investigation conducted by the Lebanon City Bureau of Fire, the Lebanon police department and the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives – which was involved because it was a church fire.
