| April 23, 2011

JOHNSON CITY, TN — The former secretary of Unaka Avenue Baptist Church is now in jail, accused of stealing $229,265 and maxing out the church’s credit card.

Johnson City police arrested Jessica Lynn Tramel Thursday and charged her with 150 counts of forgery, theft of property over $60,000 and identity theft.

According to JCPD Lt. Steve Sherfey, Tramel, who had worked at the church for the last six years, had access to the church’s financial records and checking account. Investigators say she diverted money from that checking account by forging checks and making them payable to her.
