| October 22, 2011

CHATHAM — Jury selection for the trial in the slaying of a Chatham priest was completed today with the swearing-in of a panel composed of eight men and eight women.

Attorneys will present opening statements on Thursday before Judge Thomas Manahan in Superior Court in Morristown.

At the end of the trial, the panel will be separated into groups of 12 regular jurors and four alternates who will be chosen at random.

Former church custodian Jose Feliciano, 66, of Easton, Pa., is accused of first-degree murder in the Oct. 22, 2009 stabbing death of the Rev. Edward Hinds, 61, former pastor at St. Patrick Church.

Manahan was finalizing an order today clarifying what the defense may say in its opening statement regarding a confession made by Feliciano.
