Jury selection to begin in trial of Chatham church custodian charged with killing pastor

| September 6, 2011

CHATHAM — Despite objections from a defense attorney, a Superior Court judge ruled today that jury selection will start Wednesday in the murder trial of former Chatham church custodian Jose Feliciano.

Feliciano, now 66, is accused in the Oct. 22, 2009 stabbing death of the Rev. Edward Hinds, the former pastor at St. Patrick Church.

Feliciano’s public defender, Neill Hamilton, had argued that jury selection should be delayed several weeks because he and his experts have not had a chance to review final “discovery” information submitted by the prosecution. The “discovery” includes a cell-phone-tower map, blood-splatter information and Feliciano’s medical records, Hamilton said.
