Lakeland church pastor dies months after shooting rampage

| February 21, 2012

The associate pastor of a Lakeland church that was shot three times in a September shooting rampage was found dead inside his home last week, officials said.

Carl Stewart, a member of the ministerial staff at Greater Faith Christian Church, was found Thursday by a friend that routinely checked on the 65-year-old man, said Polk County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Carrie Eleazer.

Autopsy results have not been released but they could determine whether Stewart died as a result of his injuries, she said.

Jeremiah Fogle, 57, was charged with shooting Stewart and head pastor Dr. William Boss on Sept. 18 and confessed to killing his wife inside their home, deputies said.

He is currently being held without bond at the Polk County jail and faces capital murder charges.

Stewart was shot three times – behind his left ear, in his left shoulder and the center of his back – after Fogle burst inside the church while the congregation was praying, according to a Sheriff's Office report.,0,5557767.story
