Lexington church hit by multiple gunshots

| May 16, 2011

Usually a church is a place of worship and peace not bullets, but members of a Lexington church are shocked after several shots were fired into the building.

No one was hurt, but you can see several bullet holes in the building of Trinity Baptist Church on Strader Drive. Residents in the community surrounding the church say theirs is a quiet neighborhood. That's why A.J. Garrett was surprised to hear gunshots coming from the field behind his backyard. "Me and my friend yelled, 'We're going to call the police,' and they ran off," Garrett said, "and you could smell the gunsmoke."

That was just a few days before Garrett stopped by his church Thursday morning as he does most mornings to volunteer. "I was sweeping the steps, and I saw three bullet holes in the window," Garrett said.
