EUGENE, Ore. (KMTR) — A Lowell man will spend at least the next 25 years in prison for admitting to shooting his wife’s ex-husband to death at a church in 2010.

Robert Riley Gonzales, 35, was sentenced on murder and kidnapping charges in Lane County Circuit Court on Thursday, February 24th, 2011. He will serve life in prison with the possibility of parole after 25 years.

Gonzales admitted to shooting Kenneth Mort, 47, to death on May 12th, 2011, inside of the Kingdom Hall Church in Lowell.

Investigators say Mort was in the church meeting with 3 other church elders when they attempted to leave. Gonzales forced the four back in, then shot Mort to death. Gonzales ran from the scene after the shooting, but was found in a massive search effort a short time later, about 4 miles from the church.
